A Teacher with Experience and Passion
My name is Tammy Engert and I live in Victor, NY. I am an Elementary Teacher and mother of two. I love teaching! Even before I graduated from high school at Canisteo Central School I knew I wanted to teach elementary aged students. To fulfill that goal I completed my undergraduate education at Houghton College. While attending Houghton I had the opportunity to live in Africa for a summer with a Liberian family tutoring their son. Then I also student taught in an English speaking school in Japan. These teaching opportunities have broadened my life experience.
After graduating from Houghton College I started my first job teaching 2nd grade at Maple West Elementary School in Williamsville, NY. Williamsville was a great school district in which to work. I collaborated with highly qualified teachers, attended outstanding professional development and worked with wonderful students. I remember each group of students with fondness. There was a diversity of ability levels, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and personalities. While teaching I attended Buffalo State College to earn my Master’s of Education Degree.
I would have loved to continue teaching at Maple West, but I had the privilege of having a child and the opportunity to stay home with my growing family. My children are now both school-aged so I can’t wait to have my own classroom again.
In 2010 I had the privilege of working for Victor Central School District in two separate long-term substitute 1st grade positions. For the past several years I have had consecutive long-term substitute positions in Pittsford School District. These opportunities reinforced my love of teaching and made me want my own classroom.
I would love to talk to you about how I would fit into your school community. Thank you for taking the time to explore my information and consider me for your open teaching position.
